SHOT 1/18/11 4:30:17 PM - Lee Maxwell of Eaton, Co. owns and displays more than 1,400 antique washing machines in a one of a kind museum he calls Lee Maxwell's Washing Machine Museum. He traveled far and wide to find many of the machines even going as far as sending some back home to Colorado from trips overseas. Maxwell is in the Guiness Book of World Records for the collection and said it takes him on average about a week to restore and clean a machine but added that some are way more time intensive than others. He said of his obsession, "People always ask me why washing machines and I say once you retire you need a hobby and I don't fish, I don't golf and I hate bungee jumping so I picked washing machines...There's really no good reason!". Maxwell was photographed with his wife, Barbara (who he calls a sait for putting up with his hobby), and his bulldog Thor (named after an old washing machine company).(Photo by Marc Piscotty / © 2011)
