MAP278 Memorial Day Flags

Connie Arbaugh (cq, left) comforts her mom Lillian Westwood (right), both of Denver, as the two leave flowers at the gravesite of Donald Winslow, Lillian's husband, Friday at Fort Logan National Cememtary. Donald Westwood was a World War II Army veteran who passed away in 2003 and they said they come out every Memorial Day to leave flowers. Schoolchildren from Traylor Elementary as well as individual families were out at Fort Logan National Cemetary Friday May 26, 2006 to place American flags in front of the more than 70,000 headstones in the cemetary in observance of Memorial Day on Monday. The schoolchildren from Traylor have been coming for 30 years to place flags on the gravesites and the children out there this year were all volunteers as school has already ended for the year at Traylor..(MARC PISCOTTY/ © 2006)
