"Campy", a 14 month old female Vizsla, settles in during the photo shoot relaxing on the seamless. "Campy" is owned by Ginger Sammonds of Loveland, Co. The Hungarian Vizsla, is a dog breed originating in Hungary. Vizslas are known as excellent hunting dogs, and also have a level personality making them well suited for families. Vizslas are lively, gentle-mannered, loyal, caring and highly affectionate. They quickly form close bonds with their owners, including children. Often they are referred to as "velcro" dogs because of their loyalty and affection. They are quiet dogs, only barking if necessary or provoked. They are natural hunters with an excellent ability to take training. Not only are they great pointers, but they are excellent retrievers as well. The dog show features some of the top show dogs in the country and showcases close to 200 different breeds. Some 3,500 dogs and some of the top handlers in the country compete at the event which follows on the heels of Westminster. In a conformation show, judges familiar with specific dog breeds evaluate individual dogs for how well they conform to published breed standards. Conformation shows are also referred to as dog shows or breed shows. Conformation shows are typically held under the auspices of a national kennel club.
