SHOT 2/6/15 12:02:56 PM - A row of rosary beads hang on a roadside capilla in the mountains just outside of Mascota, Mexico. The rosary beads provide a physical method of keeping count of the number of Hail Marys said as the mysteries are contemplated. The fingers are moved along the beads as the prayers are recited. By not having to keep track of the count mentally, the mind is free to meditate on the mysteries. Roadside capillas, or tiny chapels, are common along the roads and highways of Mexico which is heavily Catholic and are often dedicated to certain patron saints or to the memory of a loved one that has passed away. Often times they contain prayer candles, pictures, personal artifacts or notes. (Photo by Marc Piscotty / © 2015)
