A disembodied pig's head hangs in the Mercado Principal (Pedro Sáinz de Baranda) in Campeche, Mexico. The Mercado Principal (Pedro Sáinz de Baranda) is Campeche's main market and features fresh meat, seafood, fruits and vegetables all in one spot. Campeche was founded in 1540 by Spanish conquistadores as San Francisco de Campeche and the city retains many of the old colonial Spanish city walls and fortifications which protected the city, not always successfully, from pirates and buccaneers and is known for its many colorfully painted homes in the historic city center.
