SHOT 7/27/14 6:40:23 PM - Jim Kinsinger (left) of Erie, Co. and Richard Godesiabois of Boulder, Co. take laps around the Boulder Valley Velodrome track in Erie, Co. one recent weekend evening. The velodrome is the first of its kind in the Denver metro area and one of only some twenty or so in the United States. At 250 meters, the Erie track stretches longer than most velodromes but the distance has become the preferred track length for Olympic events. Pitched at 12 degrees on the straightaways and 42 degrees on the turns, the track mimics the one used during the 2012 London Olympics. The velodrome is co-owned by University Cycles founder Doug Emerson and his partner, Frank Banta. (Photo by Marc Piscotty / © 2014)
