2005 Nobel winner John L. Hall

John L. Hall, co-winner of the 2005 Nobel Prize in physics, talks in his former laboratory on the University of Colorado campus on Tuesday October 4, 2005. In the background is a poster made by friends of his accomplishment. Hall is a senior research associate and fellow of JILA, a joint institute of CU-Boulder and the National Institute for Standards and Technology. Hall was awarded the Nobel Prize today along with American Roy J. Glauber of Harvard University and Theodor Hänsch of Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, Germany. Hall and Hänsch were cited by the Nobel committee "for their contributions to the development of laser-based precision spectroscopy," while Glauber was cited for "his contribution to the quantum theory of optical coherence.".(MARC PISCOTTY / © 2005)
