SHOT 11/10/12 9:49:05 AM - A snowy egret takes flight after fishing in the shallows along the beach in Sayulita, Mexico. Sayulita is a small fishing village about 25 miles north of downtown Puerto Vallarta in the state of Nayarit, Mexico, with a population of approximately 4,000. The Snowy Egret (Egretta thula) is a small white heron. The birds eat fish, crustaceans, insects and small reptiles. They stalk prey in shallow water, often running or shuffling their feet, flushing prey into view, as well "dip-fishing" by flying with their feet just over the water. Snowy Egrets may also stand still and wait to ambush prey, or hunt for insects stirred up by domestic animals in open fields..(Photo by Marc Piscotty / © 2012)
