MAP220 Memorial Day Flags
Frances Gee of Applewood, Co. spends some quiet time at the grave of her husband, Wayne Gee, Friday May 26, 2006 at Fort Logan National Cemetary. She said he was a pilot in the 379th Bomber Group and flew a B-17 out of a base in England during World War II. He passed away last year and she said she was relaying the news of a new great granddaughter in the family and added, "I was getting a bit emotional, he would have loved her". Schoolchildren from Traylor Elementary as well as individual families were out at Fort Logan National Cemetary Friday May 26, 2006 to place American flags in front of the more than 70,000 headstones in the cemetary in observance of Memorial Day on Monday. The schoolchildren from Traylor have been coming for 30 years to place flags on the gravesites and the children out there this year were all volunteers as school has already ended for the year at Traylor..(MARC PISCOTTY/ © 2006)
